Andhra Council Descends into Chaos Over YSRCP Placards
A major uproar took place in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council on Friday, forcing the house to be briefly adjourned. The disturbance happened after Opposition members and ruling party members exchanged heated words over a controversial issue.
The conflict began when YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) members displayed placards showing Sri Venkateswara Swamy with sandals, which many found disrespectful. This led to shouting and arguments between the members of different parties.
The chaos followed a decision by Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshen Raju, who rejected a request from opposition members Kumba Ravi Babu, D Madhava Rao, and S Mangamma. They had asked to discuss issues related to the Tirupati laddu prasadam and Indapur Dairy, which are reportedly connected to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s family business, Heritage Foods, a company that supplies ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
Opposition members argued that the matter needed urgent discussion, as it involved religious offerings and public trust, but the chairman refused to take up the issue, saying it was not admissible for discussion at the moment. The situation escalated quickly, leading to shouting, placard-waving, and the temporary adjournment of the council session.
Political observers said this incident highlights the tension between ruling and opposition parties in the state, especially when sensitive topics related to religion and influential families are raised in the legislature.
