Anil Kumble Explains Rajasthan Royals’ Early Success Against Chennai Super Kings

Anil Kumble, former India captain, explained how Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) strong start with the ball in their IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was crucial. The pitch had some moisture and movement, which helped RR’s bowlers early on. Sanju Samson, CSK’s opener, was dismissed by Nandre Burger in the first over, putting CSK on the back foot.

Kumble pointed out that the left-arm seamer’s delivery to the right-handed Samson was perfect for a bowler, as it started wide but straightened after pitching, tricking the batsman. Jofra Archer then added more pressure with his varied deliveries, making it difficult for Samson, who had previously been dismissed by Archer.

Suresh Raina, another cricket expert, praised RR’s batting pair of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, calling them potential game-changers. He compared their partnership to the successful Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli duo during RCB’s IPL days. Sooryavanshi’s quick half-century showed his ability to dominate.

Raina also noted that RR has a strong batting lineup with depth and clarity in approach. Their attacking mindset, combined with effective bowling from Archer, Nandre Burger, and Ravindra Jadeja, helped them secure an eight-wicket win over the five-time champions CSK.
