Anupriya Patel Announces AI Healthcare Strategy

Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel has announced the launch of the Strategy for AI in Healthcare for India (SAHI). This is a national framework designed to guide the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector across States, regulatory bodies, and private organisations.

She made the announcement while speaking at a roundtable discussion titled “Innovation to Impact – AI as a Public Health Gamechanger” in New Delhi. Ms. Patel said that the SAHI initiative will be officially launched during the AI Impact Summit 2026 on Thursday.

The Minister said that the framework aims to ensure that AI is used safely, ethically, and effectively in healthcare. It will help governments and institutions adopt AI tools in a structured and responsible manner.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to inclusive growth, Ms. Patel said the country believes in using AI for the benefit of all sections of society. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, she said that for India, AI stands not just for Artificial Intelligence but also for “All Inclusive.” She explained that AI should help provide fair, trusted, and accessible healthcare as India works towards becoming a developed nation, or “Viksit Bharat.”

Ms. Patel also said that India has already integrated AI into many areas of the health sector. AI is being used in disease surveillance, early detection and prevention, diagnosis, and treatment planning. She added that the new strategy will further strengthen the use of technology to improve public health outcomes across the country.
