April Thunderstorms Cool Down Chennai’s Searing Heat

A sudden thunderstorm hit Chennai and nearby areas on Monday morning (April 6, 2026). The rain and strong winds brought much-needed relief to people after several days of very hot weather. This was the first thunderstorm in April for the city this year.

The sky quickly turned dark as thick clouds covered the area, making it feel like the monsoon season had arrived early. Many residents were surprised by the sudden change in weather.

By noon, the temperature dropped sharply to around 26 degrees Celsius, making the weather much cooler and more comfortable. Several parts of the city experienced cloudy skies and pleasant conditions until about 1 p.m.

The rainfall helped reduce the heat and gave people a short but welcome break from the high temperatures.
