Ashwin Predicts 300-Run Milestone in IPL 2026
Mumbai (Maharashtra), March 28 – Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has predicted that the 300-run mark will be crossed during the upcoming IPL season. Speaking on his YouTube channel, ‘Ash Ki Baat,’ he highlighted strong batting lineups and weaker bowling as factors contributing to this potential milestone.
The season opener features defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) facing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Both teams have formidable batting arsenals led by players like Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. Their previous meeting saw SRH score a record 287/3, with RCB responding strongly despite challenges.
Ashwin noted that recent IPL seasons have seen increasing run totals, particularly by SRH. The introduction of the ‘Impact Player’ rule has allowed teams to attack from the start, leading to more high scores. In 2013, Chris Gayle’s 175* powered RCB to a then-record 263/5.
The 2024 IPL was especially challenging for bowlers, with eight scores exceeding 250. Last season, SRH achieved two such totals, including an impressive 286/6 and 278/3. Ashwin also commented on the absence of key Australian bowlers Pat Cummins (SRH) and Josh Hazlewood (RCB), suggesting RCB would miss Hazlewood more due to his expertise in crucial death overs.
Overall, Ashwin’s prediction reflects the evolving nature of IPL cricket, with teams focusing on aggressive batting and strategic bowling changes.
