Ashwin Quits IPL After Painful CSK Season

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin shared his tough experience during his second spell with the team in IPL 2025. Despite being signed for ₹9.75 crore, Ashwin struggled to replicate his usual performance, taking just seven wickets and scoring 33 runs in nine matches.

CSK also had a disappointing season, finishing 10th with only 8 points from 14 games. Speaking on his show “Ash Ki Baat,” Ashwin admitted the season was emotionally challenging for him. He mentioned feeling unable to perform at his best due to mental fatigue.

After their loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which was their third consecutive defeat, Ashwin explained his decision to retire from IPL to avoid putting pressure on CSK’s management. He didn’t want them to face tough choices about retaining him and also wanted to save the franchise ₹10 crore. Despite retiring, he remains disappointed, as he had hoped for a better outcome.

Ashwin has played 221 matches in IPL history, taking 187 wickets and scoring 833 runs. He was part of the CSK teams that won IPL titles in 2010 and 2011, as well as Champions League victories in 2010 and 2014.

Looking ahead, CSK aims to secure their first win in IPL 2026 when they face Delhi Capitals on April 11 at Chepauk.
