Aussies Dominate West Indies in ODI Series

Australia continued their strong performance against the West Indies, securing a convincing 90-run win in the second One-Day International (ODI) match in St Kitts. Beth Mooney scored an important half-century (65 runs) to help Australia reach a solid total of 269/7 in 50 overs. The bowlers, led by Georgia Wareham and Ash Gardner, took three wickets each to restrict the West Indies to just 179 runs in reply.

This victory extended Australia’s remarkable streak of consecutive wins against the West Indies to 15 matches in completed ODIs, a run that began back in 2013. Australia had already won the first match of the series by 103 runs at the same venue. Stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath praised her team’s performance, especially after facing challenges from the West Indies’ spin bowlers.

Mooney’s steady innings helped Australia post a competitive score. Despite some tough moments in the middle overs, McGrath highlighted the team’s ability to stay focused and maintain discipline. Her own contribution included 24 runs as a lower-order batsman and two crucial wickets while filling in for the injured Sophie Molineux.

The series victory serves as valuable preparation for Australia ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup later this year. McGrath emphasized the team’s commitment to continuous improvement, acknowledging areas where they can still grow but expressing satisfaction with the overall win.
