Bangladesh Bans IPL Broadcast After Mustafizur Issue
The interim government of Bangladesh on Monday announced an indefinite ban on the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the country. The decision comes amid rising political tensions between Bangladesh and India.
The move followed the removal of a Bangladesh cricketer, Mustafizur Rahman, from the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Mustafizur was bought for ₹9.20 crore during the IPL 2026 mini auction held in Abu Dhabi in December.
On Saturday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India had asked the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise to release Mustafizur.
The decision to release Mustafizur did not go down well with the Bangladesh cricket community. Many players and officials expressed disappointment, calling the move unfair and politically motivated.
The IPL broadcast ban has further added to the strain in sporting relations between the two neighbouring countries.
