Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike From February 9

Bengaluru Metro commuters will soon have to pay more for their travel, as fares are set to increase again from 9 February. The hike is part of the annual fare revision by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Many passengers say they are still adjusting to the steep fare increases introduced in February 2025. Students, daily commuters and civil society groups feel that even small hikes every year slowly add up and make travel more expensive. This puts extra pressure on people who depend on the metro for long-distance travel every day.

For Girija, a college student in Bengaluru, the Namma Metro is very important. She travels daily from Silk Institute Metro Station on the Green Line to Cubbon Park on the Purple Line to attend her college in Vasanth Nagar. The metro helps her save time and avoid traffic.

But from 9 February, her daily travel will cost more. Her fare will go up from ₹70 to ₹74. Though the increase looks small, she says it adds up over a month and affects her budget.

The fare hike follows the recommendations of the First Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), which was set up under the Metro Railways (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. BMRCL says the revision is necessary to manage operating costs and maintain services.

However, many commuters feel that repeated increases make public transport less affordable and are asking authorities to balance costs without burdening passengers too much.
