Biotech Firm Ends Animal Experiments with Virtual Simulation Software

Evolute Bioscience, a biotechnology company based in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, has made a groundbreaking decision to stop using animals for experiments and training purposes. The company has partnered with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) India and Simcology India to use virtual simulation software instead. This change will save the lives of many animals and fish that were previously used in pharmacology education classes. Peta provided the software free-of-cost, which allows students to conduct experiments using computer-assisted learning methods without harming any living creatures. The agreement with Peta ensures that Evolute Bioscience will no longer use living or deceased animals for undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacology education, teaching, training, and demonstrations. This includes research and thesis work in the company’s postgraduate curriculum. Additionally, the firm has cancelled its plans to procure 50 mice annually for a new educational stream focused on disease model-related animal testing. It will also discontinue using 60 zebra fish for experimentation purposes. The transition to virtual simulation software is expected to be completed once a non-animal module is finalized through Simcology. Peta emphasizes that pharmacology students deserve the best training possible, which means using modern simulation tools instead of harming animals in cruel and outdated experiments. Mice and other animals are not relevant to human pharmacology education, and Peta encourages all pharmacology programs to follow Evolute Bioscience’s progressive decision to advance student education while sparing animal lives. The managing director of Evolute Bioscience, Preyenga Saravanan, appreciates Peta India for donating the simulation software that allows the company to replace its experiments on animals in undergraduate and postgraduate educational curricula.
