Boathouses Coming Up at Madhavaram, Manali Lakes

Residents of Madhavaram, Manali, and nearby areas have something to look
forward to — boathouses are set to be opened on the Madhavaram lake and the
nearby Manali lake by Pongal.

The Madhavaram lake, which spreads over 66 acres, and the Manali lake, covering
29 acres, have recently been cleaned and desilted by the Greater Chennai
Corporation (GCC). This work has improved the water quality and removed
accumulated mud, making the lakes ready for recreational activities.

Officials say that the project aims to provide residents with a relaxing spot
for leisure while also promoting tourism in the area.

In addition to recreational use, the cleaning and desilting of the lakes will
help improve the local environment. It will prevent water stagnation, reduce
the risk of flooding, and support aquatic life. Residents hope that the new
facilities will also encourage more people to take care of the lakes and
maintain cleanliness in the future.

Once the boathouses open, Madhavaram and Manali could become popular spots
for families, tourists, and nature lovers, offering a much-needed green and
blue space in the city.
