BSE, NSE Closed for Maharashtra Civic Elections
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on Thursday because of the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections. There will be no trading in shares, derivatives, or commodities on that day.
The stock exchanges said that all trading activities will be suspended to allow people to take part in the voting process. Contracts that were scheduled to expire on January 15 will be settled one day earlier than planned.
To support the smooth conduct of elections, the Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday across the state. This will help voters in 29 municipal corporations cast their votes without work-related difficulties.
Normal trading on the stock exchanges will resume the next working day after the elections.
