Bullet Train Project Creates Jobs, Cuts Travel Time

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the Bullet Train Project is creating a large number of jobs and will continue to offer more employment opportunities even after it becomes operational.

He said that once the project is completed, travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be reduced to just 1 hour and 58 minutes. This faster travel will help connect major business and commercial centres and support economic growth in the region.

The Minister was speaking on Wednesday after an important milestone was achieved in the project. A breakthrough was completed in a 1.5-kilometre-long mountain tunnel (MT-5) in Palghar district, located between the Virar and Boisar bullet train stations. The tunnel is one of the longest in the district.

The tunnel was excavated from both ends and completed within 18 months using advanced drill-and-blast technology. Officials said this method helped complete the work efficiently and safely.

Mr. Vaishnaw also pointed out that the bullet train project will be environment-friendly. Once operational, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 95 percent compared to road transport, making it a cleaner and greener travel option.
