Chandigarh Grants 20% Quota for Ex-Agniveers
Gulab Chand Kataria, who is also the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, has approved 20 per cent horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in selected government jobs.
This reservation will apply to direct recruitment for the post of Jail Warder (Group C) in the Prisons Department of Chandigarh. The decision was taken after a letter from Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. Officials have clarified that all recruitment will be carried out according to existing rules, eligibility criteria, and procedures.
Apart from the Prisons Department, 20 per cent horizontal reservation will also be given to ex-Agniveers for eligible posts in the Chandigarh Fire Services and the Forest Department. This means that a fixed share of vacancies in these departments will be reserved for former Agniveers.
Earlier, Mr Kataria had approved the same 20 per cent reservation for ex-Agniveers in direct recruitment to the post of Constable (Executive and Wireless) in the Chandigarh Police, including posts in the India Reserve Battalion (IRB). This step was taken to support ex-Agniveers after they complete their service.
The move is aimed at providing stable job opportunities to former Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme. By offering reservation in government jobs, the administration hopes to help them smoothly shift to civilian careers after serving in the armed forces.
