Chemicals Sector Enters New Growth Phase: Patel

Minister of State for Chemicals and Petrochemicals Anupriya Patel said that India’s chemicals and petrochemicals sector is entering a new phase of growth.

She said the growth is being supported by tax reforms, simpler rules, and better ease of doing business. These changes are helping companies operate more smoothly and attract more investment.

Ms Patel was speaking at the 14th FICCI Chemicals and Petrochemicals Awards 2025 held in New Delhi.

She described the chemicals and petrochemicals industry as the backbone of India’s manufacturing sector, as it supplies raw materials to many other industries such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, agriculture, and plastics.

The minister also highlighted the benefits of GST reforms. She said the new two-rate structure of 5 per cent and 18 per cent has simplified the tax system, reduced disputes, and corrected duty-related problems. This has helped chemical manufacturers save time and costs.

She added that the government will continue to support the sector to boost production, exports, and job creation.
