Chennai CM Opens Khader Nawaz Pedestrian Plaza

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a new pedestrian plaza on Khader Nawaz Khan Road in Nungambakkam on Thursday. The project was completed at a cost of ₹19.81 crore.

The plaza covers the stretch between Uthamar Gandhi Salai junction and Shafi Mohammed Road junction. It was developed under the Greater Chennai Corporation’s (GCC) Complete Streets Project, which aims to make roads safer and more comfortable for pedestrians.

The newly opened space is designed to encourage walking, shopping, and leisure activities. It includes wider footpaths, better lighting, and improved public areas for visitors.

Soon after the inauguration, many people visited the plaza to explore the new space. However, the large number of visitors also led to traffic congestion in nearby areas, as vehicles slowed down and parking became difficult.

Officials are expected to monitor the situation and take steps to manage traffic while ensuring that the plaza remains a safe and pleasant place for the public.
