Chennai Metro Phase II Launches February Services

Chennai Metro Rail has made a small change to its original plan. The train services for the Phase II network will now start on a 15.8-kilometre stretch from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani in February.

Earlier, the plan was to begin services between Poonamallee Bypass and Porur Junction by the end of January and then extend the route to Vadapalani in February.

The change is meant to help commuters get the benefits of the Phase II network right from the start, especially in areas where it connects with the older Phase I network. By starting the service on the longer stretch, more people will be able to travel conveniently without waiting for the full network to open.

The Metro authorities said this approach will make travel easier for daily commuters and gradually improve connectivity across the city as the Phase II network expands.
