Chennai Metro Plans Better Walking Access Near Stations

More than ten years after starting train services, Chennai Metro Rail has decided to improve walking facilities around its stations. This is the first major step taken to make it easier and safer for people to walk near metro stations in Chennai.

The metro currently operates a 54-km Phase I network with 41 stations. Now, the authorities are planning to make these areas more pedestrian-friendly so that commuters can easily reach the stations on foot.

As part of this plan, Chennai Metro Rail will soon start a detailed study. The study will focus on improving footpaths, crossings, lighting, and overall safety for pedestrians in and around all the stations.

Officials believe that better walking infrastructure will help more people use the metro, reduce traffic congestion, and make daily travel more convenient.

This move is seen as an important step towards improving urban transport and encouraging people to choose public transport instead of private vehicles.
