Chennai Police Tighten Security for Kaanum Pongal

The Greater Chennai Police are preparing strong security plans for Kaanum Pongal, which will be celebrated on January 17. To keep people safe during the festival, the police are deploying around 16,000 officers and nearly 1,500 Home Guards across the city.

Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun said that the security arrangements will especially focus on areas where large crowds usually gather, such as Marina Beach, Besant Nagar, and Elliot’s Beach. These places are popular for Pongal celebrations, and many people are expected to visit them.

The police are also putting special measures in place to manage traffic, control crowds, and respond quickly to any emergencies. They have asked the public to follow instructions, avoid overcrowded areas, and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.

Officials said these steps are part of a broader plan to make sure that everyone can enjoy Kaanum Pongal safely without any accidents or problems.
