Chennai Vendor Awaits Aid, Backs DMK

A flag march was carried out by the Greater Chennai Police along with the Central Reserve Police Force on Wednesday in a crowded area near Chepauk Palace, located in the Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency. The march took place on a busy stretch where vehicles were parked in a disorderly manner, adding to the congestion.

Amid this, 64-year-old Samsath Begum was seen sitting on the footpath near her home, continuing her small clothes-selling business despite the difficult conditions. She shared her struggles, saying she has been asking the local MLA for a new mobile vending cart to support her livelihood. She also mentioned that she has applied for assistance under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam scheme.

Samsath Begum highlighted that many street vendors and poor families in the area are facing financial difficulties. Their daily income has been affected, and they depend heavily on government support to manage their expenses. She added that she has not yet received the ₹5,000 financial assistance promised by the State government.

Even with these challenges, she expressed her continued support for the DMK, saying that the party’s welfare schemes still give her hope and are important for people like her who rely on government aid.
