Congress Announces Christopher Tilak as Rajya Sabha Candidate from Tamil Nadu
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced Christopher Tilak, an AICC secretary and a close associate of Rahul Gandhi, as the Congress candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu. This decision was made by K.C. Venugopal, the AICC General Secretary. Tilak is expected to file his nomination papers soon, as Wednesday is the last day for submission. Christopher Tilak has been involved in various roles within the Indian National Congress party. He is currently the in-charge for Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim. In the past, he has served as the secretary of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) SC/ST wing and the AICC youth wing. Additionally, he was responsible for overseeing the activities of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Tilak is an engineering graduate who also has a passion for hockey. His announcement as the Rajya Sabha candidate from Tamil Nadu comes as a surprise to many in the political circles. This development comes at a time when there are rumors about seat-sharing talks between the Congress and the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) ahead of the upcoming elections in 2026. However, both parties have downplayed these rumors, saying that a decision on seat sharing will be made soon. As Christopher Tilak files his nomination papers, it remains to be seen what impact this move will have on the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
