Cooper Connolly Leads Punjab to IPL Victory
April 1 (Reuters) – Cooper Connolly made an impressive debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring an unbeaten 72 to help Punjab Kings win by three wickets against Gujarat Titans. The Australian all-rounder, who had been struggling recently, credited his turnaround to taking a mental break and refreshing his approach.
Connolly, 22, had scored just one run in Australia’s recent T20 series loss to Pakistan and performed poorly in the World Cup earlier this year. However, after spending time with family and friends during a break, he felt ready for the IPL.
His partnership with teammates Marco Jansen and Xavier Bartlett proved crucial as Punjab recovered from losing four wickets early in their chase. Connolly’s aggressive batting included five sixes and five fours, earning praise from his captain, Shreyas Iyer, who called his performance “surreal.”
Punjab now sits fourth in the IPL standings and will face Chennai Super Kings next.
