Critical Minerals Key to Future Economy: Reddy

Union Minister for Coal and Petroleum G. Kishan Reddy said that critical minerals are becoming very important for the global economy. He explained that these minerals are essential for fast-growing sectors such as solar energy, lithium-based batteries, and copper-related technologies.

The Minister made these remarks while speaking at the second edition of the event titled Indian Critical Minerals Landscape: Foundation for a Sustainable Future held in New Delhi.

During his address, Kishan Reddy said that the future of the world depends greatly on the availability and sustainable development of critical minerals. These minerals are key to clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, renewable power systems, and advanced electronics.

He said India is taking strong steps to secure its mineral resources. According to the Minister, 41 private agencies have been given permission and responsibility to explore critical minerals across the country. This move is expected to strengthen India’s resource security and reduce dependence on imports.

Kishan Reddy also stressed the need for responsible mining practices and sustainable development. He said that while exploring and extracting minerals, it is important to protect the environment and ensure long-term benefits for the country.

The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss India’s strategy for developing its critical mineral sector and building a sustainable future.
