CUMTA Proposes Shifting Chennai Airport Cargo Terminal

The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has once again requested the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to move the existing cargo terminal to the back side of Chennai Airport. The move is expected to free up space for more apron facilities and create a separate corridor just for cargo movement.

This proposal is part of CUMTA’s City Logistics Plan (CLP) for 2025-26. The plan aims to reduce traffic congestion in Chennai by redirecting cargo vehicles and providing dedicated routes for cargo transport, making city roads less crowded and smoother for commuters.

By shifting the cargo terminal and improving connectivity, the authorities hope to make both airport operations and city traffic more efficient.
