Deep Depression Likely to Become Cyclone Soon
The Regional Meteorological Department says that the deep depression over the
southwest Bay of Bengal and the nearby Sri Lanka coast has moved north-northwest
at a speed of 8 kmph in the last six hours. It is still in the same area.
The system is expected to keep moving in the same direction and become a
cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours.
It is likely to move toward North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra
Pradesh coasts over the next 48 hours. Heavy rain has been forecast in Tiruvallur,
Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram districts on the 29th and 30th.
Cyclone warning signal No. 4 has been raised at Chennai, Cuddalore, and
Nagapattinam ports. Signal No. 3 is in place at Thoothukudi, Pamban,
Nagapattinam, and Karaikal ports. In Ennore, Kattupalli, and Puducherry
ports, signal No. 1 has been raised.
