Delhi Metro Phase 5(A) Expansion Approved by Cabinet

The Union Cabinet has approved three new metro corridors as part of Delhi Metro’s Phase 5(A) Project, worth around ₹12,015 crore. The new corridors are:

R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha

Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1

Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj

After the cabinet meeting in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that with this expansion, the Delhi Metro network will cross 400 kilometres.

He added that 13 new metro stations will be built. The R.K. Ashram Marg – Indraprastha section will extend the Botanical Garden–R.K. Ashram Marg corridor and provide metro access to the Central Vista area, which is currently being redeveloped.

The Minister said the new Central Vista corridor will connect all the Kartavya Bhawans, giving easy access to offices and visitors. Around 60,000 office workers and 2 lakh visitors are expected to benefit daily. He also noted that the metro sector has seen revolutionary changes in the last 11 years.

The Aerocity – Airport Terminal-1 and Tughlakabad – Kalindi Kunj sections will extend the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor, improving connectivity between the airport and southern parts of Delhi, including Tughlakabad, Saket, and Kalindi Kunj.

These extensions under Phase 5(A) will expand metro access in Central Delhi and the Domestic Airport, making travel easier and boosting the local economy.
