Dense Fog Disrupts Flights, Trains Across North India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for dense fog in several parts of north India. The warning is in place for Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh till the 9th of this month.

The weather department has also forecast cold wave conditions in some areas of Himachal Pradesh. In Uttarakhand, ground frost is likely in certain regions. The IMD added that cold day conditions are expected in isolated areas of Bihar till Monday.

Dense fog has already caused major travel problems in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Due to poor visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport, 72 flights were cancelled on Saturday. Many other flights were also delayed.

Train services were also affected. The Delhi Division of Indian Railways said that the movement of several trains coming to Delhi was disrupted. Around eight trains were delayed by more than three hours because of the fog.

Authorities have advised people to be careful while travelling, especially during early morning and late night hours, as foggy conditions are expected to continue.
