Dhoni Rules Out Becoming Cricket Commentator

Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made it clear that he is unlikely to take up the role of a cricket commentator. Dhoni said that commentary is a tough job, as it involves keeping track of many statistics and numbers, which he finds difficult to memorise. He explained that commentary also requires speaking continuously while analysing the game, which can be very challenging even for experienced players.

The 44-year-old, who captained India to three ICC trophies—the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy—has mostly stayed away from publicly sharing his views on cricket since retiring from the national team in 2020. Fans have long admired his calm leadership and tactical mind, and many had hoped to hear his insights in the commentary box.

Currently, Dhoni’s connection to cricket remains primarily through the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he continues to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Beyond playing, he also mentors younger players, offering guidance on strategy, game temperament, and leadership skills.

Experts and fans note that even without commentary, Dhoni’s presence on the field continues to influence Indian cricket, as his experience and tactical knowledge shape the performance of his teammates in the IPL. Despite stepping back from international cricket, Dhoni’s impact on the game remains strong and enduring.
