Digital Boards Installed at 50 Stations
Southern Railway has installed digital display boards at nearly 50 major railway stations in the city as part of a project aimed at improving passenger facilities. The move is expected to make travel more convenient by providing important information in a clear and easy-to-read format.
The new digital boards have been placed at key locations inside stations, including platforms and entrance areas. They are designed to display details such as train numbers, destinations, platform information, and scheduled arrival and departure times. Railway officials say the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to modernise stations and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
Many commuters have welcomed the installation of the boards, saying they look modern and are easier to read compared to traditional notice boards. Regular passengers believe the displays can help reduce confusion, especially during peak hours when stations are crowded.
However, several commuters have pointed out that the boards will only be truly effective if they provide real-time updates on suburban train arrivals and delays. At present, suburban train services are heavily used by office-goers and students, and even a small delay can disrupt daily schedules. Passengers say that without live updates, the digital boards may not fully serve their purpose.
Some travellers also suggested that the displays should clearly show information in both English and the regional language to ensure that all passengers can understand the details. Others have requested announcements to be synchronised with the digital boards for better clarity.
Railway officials have indicated that efforts are being made to improve data integration so that real-time information can be displayed consistently. They added that feedback from commuters will be taken into account as the system is further upgraded.
Passengers hope that once real-time updates are fully implemented, the digital display boards will significantly improve communication and make daily travel smoother and more reliable.
