DMK Nears Seat Sharing Talks Conclusion

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Chennai is planning to complete seat-sharing talks with its alliance partners by Friday ahead of the elections.

Among its allies, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is the only major party that has officially been invited for detailed seat-sharing discussions so far.

Sources say the DMK had already informed the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) about the number of seats it would get even before the party joined the alliance.

The DMK has offered five seats each to the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM). This is one seat less than what they received in the previous election. While CPI is likely to accept the offer, CPM is still negotiating and asking for more seats.

Meanwhile, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), is expected to contest three seats as part of the DMK alliance.

The talks are important as the DMK aims to finalise its alliance strategy and present a united front for the upcoming elections.
