Donald Trump Willing to End War Without Reopening Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly told his team he is ready to end military operations against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. The Wall Street Journal cited administration officials in its report.
Recent assessments by Trump and his aides suggest that efforts to reopen the strategic waterway would extend beyond Trump’s desired timeline of four to six weeks, according to a daily report. Trump decided to focus on key goals: limiting Iran’s naval capabilities and missile stocks while reducing current hostilities. He also plans to pressure Tehran diplomatically to resume normal trade through the strait.
If these efforts fail, Washington may ask European or Gulf allies to lead the mission to reopen the strait, the WSJ reported. At a press conference on March 30, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump and Pentagon leaders have set a four-to-six-week timeline for the military operation. She also hinted that Arab countries like Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia could share the burden of the mission.
The U.S. and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran starting February 28, leading to retaliations across the Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy route connecting the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean, remains closed, halting most shipping traffic.
