“Drone Ban Ahead of Republic Day in Chennai”
The city is all set to celebrate Republic Day on Monday, with strict security arrangements in place. Governor R.N. Ravi will hoist the national flag at a grand ceremony near the Workers’ Statue on Marina Beach, in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and other top officials.
To ensure the event is held safely and peacefully, Chennai Police have tightened security across the city. Commissioner Arun has ordered special measures and extra police deployment at important locations.
The area around the Workers’ Statue, where the main function will take place, has been declared a red zone. Roads leading from the Chief Minister’s house to the venue and from the Governor’s route to the event have also been marked as red zones. Vehicles and people entering these areas will be checked carefully.
Police have also banned drones and unmanned aerial vehicles from flying over the event area. Apart from this, the use of laser lights, hot air balloons, light-emitting devices, hang gliders, and other flying objects has been strictly prohibited near the venue and in the airspace around Chennai airport.
Officials said these steps are necessary to avoid any security threats and to protect the public and dignitaries attending the function. The ban on flying objects will remain in force for about 60 days, until March 23.
With these precautions in place, the city is expected to witness heavy police presence and tight monitoring as leaders, officials, and citizens gather to celebrate Republic Day.
