Du Plessis Admonishes Pant Over Shot Selection in T20

Faf du Plessis, a respected South African cricketer, has shared his thoughts on Rishabh Pant’s struggles in T20 cricket. Du Plessis praised Pant’s talent and range of shots but noted that the Indian batter tends to “overthink” his approach, leading to inconsistency.

Du Plessis suggested that Pant should avoid premeditating every shot and instead focus on a clearer plan during T20 matches. He compared Pant’s performance in Test cricket, where he excels with his varied techniques, to his T20 form, which has been lackluster. Du Plessis pointed out that while Pant has a high strike rate, it doesn’t match the expectations for a top-tier T20 player.

Pant’s recent IPL season was disappointing, with poor scores despite his high-priced contract. Du Plessis noted that Pant’s tendency to play too ambitiously and “frantically” on the crease could be part of the problem. He advised Pant to simplify his game and find a consistent method in T20 cricket.

Du Plessis also suggested that Pant might benefit from batting at position three for Lucknow Super Giants, allowing him to build partnerships and stabilize his innings. He emphasized the importance of having a structured approach rather than relying solely on big shots.

Overall, du Plessis believes that with the right strategy and focus, Pant has the potential to excel in T20 cricket but needs to work on his consistency and shot selection.
