Emergency Declared in 283 Peruvian Districts Amid Heavy Rainfall

Peru has declared a state of emergency in all 283 districts across the country to deal with the severe impact of heavy rainfall on public safety. This measure will be in place for the next 60 days, affecting 20 out of Peru’s 25 regions. The affected areas include major cities like Lima, as well as Amazonas, Ancash, Cusco, and Arequipa.

During this emergency period, local governments will work closely with regional authorities, the National Institute of Civil Defence, and various ministries to take immediate action to respond to disasters and restore affected areas. This includes deploying ministers to different parts of the country to oversee response efforts firsthand.

The Peruvian Armed Forces have also been deployed to assist with rehabilitation and logistics, working together with the National Police. Heavy rainfall is a common occurrence in Peru due to the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon, which warms coastal waters, increases atmospheric moisture, and triggers intense seasonal rainfall. The government is taking this measure to ensure public safety and respond effectively to the disaster.
