England Beat Australia at MCG After 14 Years
England finally ended their long wait for a Test win in Australia after 14 years, defeating Australia in the fourth Test of the Ashes 2025–26 series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday. The victory came on Day 2 of the match under the leadership of Ben Stokes.
England were set a target of 174 runs to win, with more than three days still left in the game. However, the chase was not easy, as Australia fought hard with the ball. England lost several wickets but stayed calm to secure a four-wicket win in front of a packed MCG crowd.
This win was England’s first of the series after losing the first three Tests. The result also kept the Ashes contest alive ahead of the fifth and final Test, which will begin in the New Year.
This was the second match in the series to end within the first two days, showing how fast-paced the games have been. England’s last Test victory in Australia came in 2011 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where they won by an innings and 83 runs.
The Melbourne win is a big moment for England and marks a rare success on Australian soil after more than a decade.
