Ennore Thermal Power Project Revival in Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited (TANPCL) has invited bids to restart and complete the long-delayed Ennore Thermal Power Station expansion. The project will be done as a public-private partnership (PPP) and aims to provide a long-term supply of electricity to meet the state’s increasing demand.
The project will set up a 1×660 MW supercritical coal-fired power unit at Ennore. It will be built on a design, build, finance, own, and operate (DBFOO) basis, meaning private companies will help build and manage the plant, sharing the investment and operational responsibilities.
TANPCL will act as the main agency on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL). TNPDCL will purchase electricity from the plant through a long-term power purchase agreement, ensuring a reliable supply.
Officials say that finishing the Ennore expansion will strengthen Tamil Nadu’s power system, support industrial growth, and provide stable electricity to homes and businesses.
