Five-Year-Old Dies Due to Banned Manja

A five-year-old girl lost her life in Hyderabad on Monday, January 26, after getting injured by banned Chinese manja used for flying kites. This is the latest tragic incident linked to the dangerous thread in Telangana.

The accident happened in the Kukatpally area when the girl was travelling on a motorcycle with her father and sister. She was sitting in front of her father, who was riding the bike, while her sister was seated behind him. The family was returning to Kukatpally from Khajipalli in Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

According to the police, a kite string (manja) flying in the air suddenly got entangled around the girl’s neck. The sharp thread caused a deep cut, leading to heavy bleeding. Sadly, the child, identified as Nishvika Aditya, died on the spot.

This is the second such death in Telangana in less than two weeks. On January 14, a 35-year-old man named Avidesh, a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh, died in Sangareddy district after a similar incident. He was also riding a motorcycle when the manja got caught around his neck, causing a fatal injury.

Chinese manja, which is often made of glass-coated or synthetic thread, is banned because it is very sharp and dangerous. It can cause serious injuries to pedestrians, riders, and even birds. Despite the ban, such threads are still being used in some places, leading to repeated accidents.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid using banned manja and follow safety rules to prevent more tragedies.
