Flamingo Festival 2026 Announced at Pulicat Lake
The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the Flamingo Festival 2026, which will be held on January 10 and 11 at the beautiful Pulicat Lake in Tirupati district, earlier part of Nellore district.
The two-day festival celebrates the arrival of thousands of greater flamingos and other migratory birds that visit Pulicat Lake every year. These birds come to the lake to breed and feed on the rich supply of fish and shrimp found in its brackish waters.
The festival aims to combine nature, culture and awareness about protecting biodiversity. It is expected to attract tourists from across India and from other countries as well. Along with the celebrations, the event will also highlight development works planned for Pulicat Lake, such as desilting, restoration and eco-tourism projects.
Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar said the festival is being planned in a way that will bring in more visitors than before. Superintendent of Police Subbarayudu said special focus is being given to crowd control and safety arrangements.
The Flamingo Festival will be organised at several locations, including Pulicat, Nelapattu, BV Palyam, Atakakani Thippa, Irakkam Island, Ubbalamadugu and Periyapalyam. The main events will take place at the Government Junior College in Sullurpet.
