Former Philippine General Held At Manila Airport
A former Philippine Air Force General, Romeo Poquiz, was arrested on Monday (January 5, 2026) at Manila’s international airport on charges of sedition, officials said.
According to Interior Department Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Mr. Poquiz was taken into custody by the Philippine National Police after he returned from a holiday in Thailand. He was arrested soon after landing at the airport.
Mr. Poquiz had earlier made public statements calling on the armed forces to withdraw their support from President Ferdinand Marcos. His remarks came at a time when the President is facing a growing corruption scandal.
Authorities said the former general is accused of encouraging disloyalty within the military, which led to the sedition charge. The government considers such statements a serious threat to national stability.
Officials said further legal action will follow as investigations continue. The arrest has drawn attention as tensions rise over the corruption allegations and political developments in the Philippines.
