Fourteen Maoists Killed in Chhattisgarh Encounters

Fourteen Maoists were killed in two separate encounters with the District Reserve Guard (DRG) on Saturday morning in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district and the nearby Bijapur district.

This was the first encounter of the year between Maoists and security forces.

Out of the 14 Maoists killed, 12 were shot dead in southern Sukma, while two were killed in Bijapur, where the encounter began around 5 am. Among those killed in Sukma was Mangdu, who was the secretary of the Konta area committee. Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chawan said that all armed Maoists belonging to the Konta area committee have now been eliminated.

These encounters took place as the March 2026 deadline set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to end Maoist activity in the country draws closer.

The operation also happened on the same day when several Maoists, including Barsa Deva alias Barsa Sukka, a senior commander of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army Battalion 1, were scheduled to surrender before the Telangana police chief B. Shivadhar Reddy.

Officials said that more than 500 Maoists have been killed in Chhattisgarh since 2024 as part of ongoing anti-Maoist operations.
