Gore Leads Rangers to Shutout Victory
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — MacKenzie Gore pitched five strong innings, allowing just one hit while striking out nine batters. The Texas Rangers defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-0 in a game that completed a three-game series sweep.
All three of the Rangers’ runs came in the fifth inning. Danny Jansen and Josh Smith started the inning with consecutive singles. Ezequiel Duran then hit another single to load the bases. Brandon Nimmo followed with a fielder’s choice that scored two runners, thanks to a Mariners’ throwing error during a double play attempt. This gave Texas a 2-0 lead. Corey Seager later added a sacrifice fly to score Duran and make the score 3-0.
The Mariners struggled offensively, managing only two hits and striking out 13 times. Their pitching also faltered as Bryan Woo allowed three runs in five innings.
Chris Martin, Luis Curvelo, and Cole Winn each pitched in relief for the Rangers, keeping the Mariners hitless until the ninth inning. The shutout was a strong team effort.
The loss marked the Mariners’ fifth straight defeat. Both teams will have an off day before returning to action on Friday. The Mariners will face the Houston Astros, while the Rangers take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
