Government Releases 33 FAQs for First Census Phase

A new online tool is now available for people who choose to complete their census information themselves. This tool will be used during both phases of the census: the Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) and the Population Enumeration.

The government has shared 33 frequently asked questions (FAQs) that will guide citizens on how to answer questions during the first phase of the census, which starts on April 1, 2026. These include details about a household’s materials, such as flooring and roofing, the number of married couples living there, and whether the head of the household belongs to a specific community.

For live-in couples, if they consider their relationship stable, they should be treated as married for census purposes. The questions will begin with basic details like building numbers and house materials, then move on to more detailed information about the home’s condition, residents, and the head of the household. Enumerators will also ask about ownership status and access to essential items.
