Gunfire Hits US Consulate in Toronto

Canadian police are investigating after the United States Consulate General Toronto was hit by gunfire early on Tuesday morning, March 10, 2026. The incident took place in downtown Toronto. Authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the shooting, but the attack has raised serious security concerns.

Police said the gunfire damaged parts of the consulate building. Security teams quickly reached the area and sealed off the surroundings while investigators began collecting evidence and reviewing surveillance footage.

Chris Leather of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police described the incident as a national security matter. He said the national police force is working together with the Toronto Police Service to determine who was behind the shooting and what the motive might be.

Officials said that investigations are ongoing and police are trying to identify the suspects involved. They are also checking nearby security cameras and speaking with possible witnesses in the area.

Following the incident, authorities have decided to increase security at several diplomatic locations across the country. This includes the American and Israeli consulates in Toronto as well as various embassies located in Ottawa.

Police said the increased security measures are meant to protect diplomatic staff and ensure the safety of people living and working near these buildings. Officials also asked the public to report any suspicious activity that could help the investigation.

Authorities emphasized that while no injuries were reported, the attack is being taken very seriously due to its potential implications for national security and the protection of diplomatic missions.
