“Heavy Rain Forecast for Chennai and Nearby Districts”
Chennai: Even though only a few areas of the city saw light and scattered showers on Friday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rain for Chennai and nearby districts on Saturday.
According to the weather department, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur are likely to receive heavy rainfall. Other areas such as Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Puducherry may also experience heavy showers.
RMC director B. Amudha said the rain is expected due to a trough of easterlies forming over the Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu coast. This weather system usually brings clouds and strong rain to coastal regions.
The department has also predicted light to moderate rain on Sunday and Monday. After that, dry weather is likely between January 27 and January 29.
Meanwhile, Chennai’s temperature on Saturday is expected to stay between 22°C and 28°C, keeping the weather cool and cloudy.
Residents have been advised to stay prepared for possible heavy rain and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
