High Court Sets Aside ‘Jana Nayagan’ Certification Order

A Division Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) accepted an appeal filed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The court cancelled an earlier order that had told the board to give a U/A 16+ certificate to actor Vijay’s much-awaited film, ‘Jana Nayagan.’

Earlier, on January 9, a single judge had asked the CBFC to issue the certificate. But the CBFC did not agree with this decision and filed an appeal.

Arul Murugan, said the earlier order was made without giving the CBFC enough time to explain its side. The judges said the board should have been given a fair chance to file its response before any order was passed.

The film’s production company, KVN Productions LLP, had first approached the court asking for certification. However, the judges said that proper legal procedure must be followed, and both sides must be heard.

Now, the earlier order has been cancelled. The CBFC will present its response, and the certification will be decided again. Because of this, the film’s release may be delayed.

‘Jana Nayagan’ is one of Vijay’s most awaited movies, and fans are eagerly waiting for updates about its release.
