Hwaseung Factory Shift Triggers Political Outrage
Tamil Nadu’s opposition parties are strongly criticizing the DMK government
after South Korean footwear company Hwaseung decided to build a large factory
in Andhra Pradesh instead of Tamil Nadu. This has created a political debate
about missed investments and lost job opportunities.
Hwaseung had earlier signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to set
up a non-leather sports shoe factory in Tuticorin. But now, the company has
chosen Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh for the project. The new factory is expected
to create 17,000–20,000 direct jobs once all phases are completed.
