IDF Chief Warns of Military Shortage Crisis

Israel Defense Forces chief Eyal Zamir has warned the government about a serious shortage of soldiers in the military. Speaking at a security cabinet meeting, he said the situation is becoming critical and could affect the army’s ability to function properly.

According to reports by Channel 13 and The Times of Israel, Gen. Zamir told ministers that the military “is going to collapse in on itself” if the problem is not addressed soon. He stressed that urgent action is needed to prevent a major crisis.

Zamir said he was raising “10 red flags” to highlight the seriousness of the issue. He called for new laws to deal with the shortage. These include a conscription law to bring in more soldiers, a reserve duty law to better manage reserve forces, and a law to extend the length of mandatory military service.

He warned that without these changes, the IDF may soon struggle to carry out its regular duties. He also said that the current reserve system may not be able to continue for long under the pressure.

The warning has drawn attention to the growing challenges faced by the Israeli military. Officials are now expected to discuss possible solutions to strengthen manpower and ensure the army remains prepared for its missions.
