India and US Strengthen Cooperation Against Drug Trafficking
The governments of India and the United States have recently held important discussions to work together more effectively against the illegal drug trade. The talks took place during a meeting at the 69th Session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Austria. The Indian delegation was led by Anurag Garg, Director General of the National Crime Bureau (NCB), while Sara Carter, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, USA, headed the US team.
During their meeting, both sides agreed to hold a special meeting called the Pillar III meeting of the U.S-India Counter Narcotics Working Group in April 2026. This meeting will focus on ways to share valuable information quickly and efficiently between the two countries to help investigate drug cartels that operate across borders. The goal is to disrupt these criminal networks and prevent them from harming communities.
The Indian government and the US government are committed to working together to combat the illegal drug trade, which poses a significant threat to public health, safety, and security. By sharing intelligence and coordinating their efforts, they aim to make it harder for drug traffickers to operate and sell drugs in both countries. This cooperation will also help to reduce the harm caused by drug addiction and related crimes.
