India, Canada Agree on Security Cooperation Plan

India and Canada have agreed to prepare a joint work plan to improve cooperation on national security and law enforcement matters. The plan will help both countries work together more closely on shared concerns and priorities.

The decision was taken during a meeting between India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and his Canadian counterpart Nathalie Drouin in Ottawa on Saturday. The meeting focused on strengthening security ties and improving coordination between the two nations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which shared details of the meeting yesterday, said both sides reviewed the progress made in recent initiatives. These efforts are aimed at protecting the safety and security of their countries and their citizens.

As part of the new plan, both India and Canada will appoint security and law-enforcement liaison officers. These officers will act as direct points of contact between the two governments. This step is expected to make communication faster and more effective.

Officials said that the two countries’ agencies will also build stronger working relationships and share information more regularly. This cooperation will help them tackle common challenges.

Some of the key issues discussed included the illegal flow of drugs, especially fentanyl and its chemical ingredients, as well as transnational organised crime networks that operate across borders.

The MEA said this move is an important step towards better coordination and timely sharing of intelligence. It will help both countries respond quickly to threats and strengthen overall security cooperation.

The meeting highlights the growing partnership between India and Canada in addressing global security and law enforcement concerns.
