India Condemns Hezbollah Role in Iran Attacks
India on Wednesday, March 11, joined nearly 30 countries that contribute troops to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in expressing deep concern over the increasing hostilities in Lebanon. These countries also strongly condemned Hezbollah’s decision to take part in the Iranian attacks against Israel earlier this month.
In a joint statement, the troop-contributing nations said they were alarmed by the growing tensions and violence in the region. They warned that the situation could threaten stability and peace in Lebanon and put the safety of UN peacekeeping forces at risk. The countries urged all sides to avoid further escalation and maintain calm.
India is one of the 50 countries that contribute troops to the UNIFIL mission, which was established by the United Nations to help maintain peace and stability in southern Lebanon. Indian peacekeepers have been serving in the mission for many years and play an important role in monitoring the ceasefire, supporting the Lebanese armed forces, and helping maintain security in the region.
Officials said the joint statement reflects the shared concern of troop-contributing countries about the safety of peacekeepers and the need to protect the UN mission in Lebanon. They called on all parties involved in the conflict to respect international law and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
The recent developments have raised fears of wider conflict in West Asia, with several countries closely monitoring the situation and urging diplomatic efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
